Friends say fall book sale is coming; library shifting withdrawn materials to secondhand outlets

Representatives of the Friends of the Eagle Public Library updated the board Aug. 20 on plans for an October book sale and the group's inventory. "Reminder, the upcoming seasonal sale, 2nd weekend in October," Betty Miller told trustees, adding that donations have been strong and that the Friends are selling more in everyday sales and through book scouting.
During the meeting a trustee asked what the library does with withdrawn materials. Library staff responded that withdrawn items are currently sent to "local secondhand places like, like Goodwill or Desiree Industries," and noted that the Friends had informed staff they no longer wanted to receive withdrawn materials. Staff said they have had to find different outlets for the removed materials.
Friends representatives and trustees agreed to use the Sept. 3 joint meeting to discuss how Friends' funds and space might be coordinated with library priorities; trustees asked the Friends to outline how they would consider spending a hypothetical $100,000 and requested the library present its priorities to help 'mesh the two.'
