Eagle Public Library reports record July circulation; 400 children finish summer reading

Chairwoman and trustees heard a brief staff report on Aug. 20 showing unusually high patron activity at the Eagle Public Library. Library staff said July set a new record for circulation, with, as the presenter put it, 'We we broke 70,000 combined, physical and digital items.'

Staff also highlighted the summer reading program’s participation: 'About 400 kids completed their agreed to reading goals,' the presenter said, and described how that contributed to heavier in‑building traffic now that school has resumed. The staff member noted that additional summer hires helped manage the returns and checkout volume.

During questions, a trustee asked for clarification about 'Yoto' devices. The staff described Yoto and Tony players as screen‑free audio devices — small card or character‑shaped players that play stories and songs — and said both types "go out like there's no tomorrow," with materials aimed at different age ranges. The staff noted Tony materials generally stop around age 8 while Yoto content scales through elementary school.

The board did not take any new action on library operations during the meeting; trustees instead scheduled a joint discussion with the Friends of the Eagle Public Library for Sept. 3 to follow up on collection management and funding priorities.
