Staff told the board Motorola provided a budgetary quote to transition Elko County from the Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS)–hosted server to a county-hosted Motorola server. Lee summarized the estimate: "The server itself, the 5 year cost, would be somewhere in the neighborhood of about $300,000, and that's not per year. That's the total for 5 years." He added managed GIS work could be about $135,000 over the same five-year period and said there may be additional data-conversion costs depending on agency needs.
Chiefs discussed whether local agencies would join a county-hosted server or remain on the state server and recommended more outreach so all potential participants could be identified. Staff said transitioning to a county server would give Elko County more control and the ability to update data more frequently than the twice-yearly updates available via the DPS server. The board did not vote on the proposal and asked staff to circulate Motorola’s materials and pursue interagency discussions before any decision.
