The Cass County Commissioners on July 6 continued tabling Ordinance 2026‑12, a proposed amendment to the county zoning code to allow carbon capture and sequestration projects, after residents raised environmental concerns and officials requested additional review.
Laura Redwick, a resident who identified herself with an address on North County Road 600 East, told the board she retained concerns about emissions and wastewater tied to the project and said the applicant had offered two configurations. "Option 1 is 1 gas turbine, which they already said would be 15 megawatts. Option 2 is 2, and it is duplication of everything," Redwick said, adding worries about "emission issues, formaldehyde slips, toxic chemicals" and wastewater handling. Other members of the public reiterated prior comments and offered to answer technical questions.
County commissioners noted the item had previously been tabled and that more time remained to act under statutory timelines; the Chair moved to continue tabling the ordinance while staff and the board reviewed it further. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board did not adopt any zoning changes at the meeting and provided no timetable for a final decision.
