Parks and Commons, mayor propose shorter, locally focused noxious-plant list; planning commission to draft ordinance

Commissioner Lauren briefed the planning commission on work by the Parks & Commons Commission to revise noxious and invasive-plant rules and to narrow the statewide list to species prevalent locally. Lauren said Parks & Commons intends to provide a condensed list and asked planning staff to draft ordinance language.
"They're looking to come up with a list of noxious weeds that are prevalent in our specific area, and then the planning commission is to actually write the ordinance," Lauren said. Commissioner discussion acknowledged that a statewide list includes species not found locally and that the mayor, Craig Burdie, had forwarded a concise proposed ordinance text for staff review.
Commissioners agreed the item will require public outreach and a public hearing before any ordinance is adopted.
