Mr. Lenny Gonzales, the district facilities presenter, told the board: "I could not find a place where I could not have the smell of urine because of the pipes and the issues that we're having with those lines." He said the campus has roughly 50 rooftop units—about 20 beyond 20 years of age—many original roofs and storm drains that are no longer connected to underground lines.
Administrators displayed dated photos (one noted as February 2026) of patched roofs and temporary plywood repairs and said that repeated emergency repairs and rising maintenance costs were a significant factor in staff recommendations to accelerate rightsizing plans.
