Bernita Campbell said the proposed budget includes targeted public safety and capital investments to maintain operations and court needs. “We are adding 5 additional positions for the sheriff's office” to support security in the State Court building after the addition of a fifth state court judge, Campbell said, noting the associated funding of $447,000.
Campbell also listed capital priorities with an estimated combined cost of $4.4 million to address jail doors and roof restorations at Probate Court, Locust Grove Gym, Fairview and the Heritage Museum. She added the county will cover 100% of employee insurance costs for those on the county health plan, an increase she described as $4,500,000.
