Richard Bland College seeks county support to pursue independent governance

Robinson reviewed workforce and transfer partnerships — including a drone‑pilot training program with DroneUp and Walmart that has trained more than 200 pilots — and asked the board to adopt a resolution supporting RBC’s pursuit of independent governance separate from the College of William & Mary. He said a study by the secretary of education concluded independent governance would be the best route and asked the county to resubmit a resolution of support to lawmakers during the upcoming General Assembly session.
Board members praised the college’s dual‑enrollment work and innovation efforts and discussed the legislative steps needed. The legislative agenda presented later in the meeting included a resolution of support for the college’s transition to independent governance; supervisors voted to approve the county’s legislative agenda.
