Sheriff’s representatives told the board the cameras — solar, pole‑mounted ANPR units — have been used since late 2022 to aid investigations, locate stolen vehicles and help with missing‑persons cases. The sheriff’s representative said initial camera purchases were reimbursed through the Virginia State Police HEAT program and that the new cameras would expand coverage primarily on the north end of the county. "If it hits that camera, it sends a text to all of our deputies," the representative said, describing how the system integrates with NCIC entries.
During the roll call vote the board recorded four ayes and one abstention (4 ayes, 1 abstain). The minutes show the motion carried and the amendment will permit continued purchases and annual service under the Flock contract.
