Indigo operations staff told the committee that a set of local service changes planned for June will retire much of the current Route 4 while redistributing coverage so riders retain access through other routes and transfer points.
Annette Darrow, Indigo chief operations officer, said most of Route 4 will be picked up by portions of other routes and that Route 3 on the East Side will be extended to Community Hospital North to cover part of Route 4’s previous alignment. “So you'll have a direct trip from community, to downtown or through the neighborhoods on Route 3,” Darrow said. She added that some routes (for example Routes 21 and 5) will shift from downtown terminals to connect with BRT stations to improve frequency and transfer reliability.
Darrow acknowledged that not every rider will welcome the changes but said the intent is to reduce redundancies and build a spine of higher‑frequency BRT service that local routes feed into. She also said the West Side will see a restored Route 7 designation where routing changes require renumbering; the service itself will continue but under a different route number. Councilors asked about expansion to the Northwest and other phased changes; Darrow said route adjustments are evaluated against ridership, land‑use and operational feasibility as part of periodic operational analyses.
