Council proclaims June as Pride Month, honors Stonewall anniversary

Leader Evans introduced a special resolution recognizing the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising and endorsing June as Pride Month in Indianapolis. "Tonight, we recognize both a profound movement in our nation's civil rights history and a celebration of community, visibility, and belonging here in Indianapolis," Leader Evans said as he read the resolution, which the council moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Belinda Drake of the Bridal Festival board thanked the council for the recognition and invited residents to Pride events. "We look forward to seeing everyone at Pride on Saturday, June 13," Drake said. The resolution invites the mayor to join by signing the declaration; the council approved the motion without recorded opposition.
