Nevada Health Centers says new providers have improved access in Elko area

Carrie Preston, practice manager for the Elko-area Nevada Health Centers, reported that the clinics have added multiple providers and are seeing improved appointment availability. "We have Janie Owen, she's a nurse practitioner and she's started seeing patients in July, and Sarah Draves... will start seeing patients starting November 2," Preston said, and added that an MD, Dr. Potter Jones, is slated to join in late October. Preston said the added staff have expanded same-day and next-day appointment availability and will allow the clinics to bring on additional front-office and medical-assistant employees.
Preston highlighted recent outreach and preventive services: immunization clinics served more than 200 children in recent weeks, the mobile dental sealant program provided sealants to 218 second-graders in local schools, and the mammography van celebrated its 25th anniversary with screenings in Jackpot and other communities. In response to a board question, Preston said local front-office staff now answer patient calls rather than a Las Vegas call center and that prescriptions filled at the clinic pharmacy require patients to be established with the clinic.
