VISD reports gains in extended-constructed responses, AP participation and P‑TECH designations

District instructional leaders presented assessment and outcome data at the July 16 meeting, highlighting measurable gains across grades and programs while flagging specific areas that need intervention.
The Academic Presenter said ECR (extended constructed response) scores have shifted toward stronger performance: "In 2024, we had 66% of our students scored between a 0 and a 3 on an extended constructed response. That has transitioned down to a 51.6." The presenter added that the biggest growth is in the 7–10 score band, which rose from 16% to 26%.
On advanced coursework, district staff reported an increase in AP participation and higher‑score results. The presenter characterized the change as a leap forward in both access and outcomes for AP: "We ramped up the number of 3 or higher exams in VISD," noting a substantial increase in tests administered and in the share scoring 3, 4 or 5.
Presenters also reviewed P‑TECH outcome measures and said campuses met distinction criteria across access, attainment and achievement indicators where applicable. Early‑grade screeners (preK–2) showed substantial growth across waves, but leaders called out decoding, fluency and some letter‑sound measures as priority instructional targets for the coming year.
District staff said they will continue monthly tracking of heart words, decoding and fluency and will refine curriculum, assessment and interventions to accelerate gains.
