District administration presented background on the trustee election process and confirmed that only one candidate filed for Single-Member District Number 3. Vice President Rick Jones read the certification language on behalf of the authority responsible for preparing ballots: "I hereby certify that BJ Nelson is unopposed for the election to single member District Number 3."
The chair moved to accept and approve the certification and to adopt the required order declaring the unopposed candidate elected under the Texas Election Code. The board voted with six ayes and no dissent; one trustee was absent. The board recorded the declaration that BJ Nelson is elected and noted that, under the cited election code provision, the May 2, 2026 election for that seat will not be held. A copy of the order will be posted at polling locations as required.
Trustees offered brief congratulatory remarks following the vote. No amendments or further actions were taken on the certification item at the meeting.
