The Henry County Zoning Advisory Board voted to approve a variance allowing a manufactured home to be sited at 265 East James Circle in Hampton. Staff told the board the 0.24-acre lot is zoned MHD (manufactured home development) and asked that the front-yard setback be reduced from 41 feet to 29 feet and the rear-yard setback from 31 feet to 10 feet to accommodate the residence; staff recommended approval with conditions.
Applicant Robert Cooper told the board he bought the parcel to place his mobile home and said he had secured a septic permit. Cooper submitted a written letter of support from his neighbor, Anna Mae Matlock, who said placing a home on the lot would reduce hazardous foot traffic and illegal dumping near her property. “I purchased a piece of property in Hampton to put my mobile home on in a mobile home neighborhood,” Cooper said. After questions from board members about septic and unit size, a committee member moved to approve the variance with conditions; the motion was seconded and the chair announced the motion carries.
