Elko Convention & Visitors Authority seeks county loan for March 2026 balloon payment; request deferred to budget committee

Annette Kerr, Executive Director of the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority, told the commission the authority has been paying down debt and is confident it will meet an upcoming balloon-payment obligation. She said the authority's statutory debt limit is $169,000,000 while outstanding debt stands at $6,000,025, leaving roughly $162,522,232 in available debt capacity. "We do anticipate paying this debt off, hopefully, by the balloon debt payment deadline...which is March 2026," Kerr said.
Kerr told commissioners the authority requested $3,000,000 from the county to help meet the balloon payment; the county commission deferred that request to the budget committee, which has indicated the request is being considered but has not yet advanced it to the full commission. Kerr said other fallback plans exist but have not been finalized and the authority's board has not approved alternate options.
