Board approves rezoning and conditional-use permit for Ferndale Road storage facility with conditions

The Dinwiddie Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning and conditional use permit Aug. 20 to allow a self-service storage facility on Ferndale Road.
Planning staff described the property, existing utilities and traffic analysis. The applicant proposed three buildings with a 2,000-square-foot office and about 67,000 square feet of enclosed storage. VDOT reviewed traffic impacts and supported a right-in/right-out entrance, and the developer agreed to design the access accordingly. The Planning Commission recommended approval with a list of conditions that the board adopted, including: a brick veneer façade for the office elevation facing Ferndale Road, opaque wood or vinyl fencing to screen adjacent residential properties (including the RV/boat area), site lighting directed inward and downward, limits on inoperable vehicles (no more than five, screened from public view), construction to begin within three years if developed in stages, and annual review for compliance.
The board opened and closed the required public hearings and then voted to approve both the rezoning and the conditional use permit by roll call.
