Board approves sheriff's handgun purchase; one supervisor abstains due to employment

The quoted package price was $120,320.55 and included two models (M18 and P365), optics, holsters and a buyback path for old weapons. The representative said the department’s firearms instructors and armorers favored the SIG Sauer models after field testing.
Supervisor Casey M. Dooley read a statement before the discussion notifying the board he would abstain from discussion and vote on the contract because he is employed by the Sheriff's Office. The board recorded a roll-call vote with 4 ayes and 1 abstention and approved the contract.
