Engineer: Farm Center renovation near completion; Roundabout bid at $2.99 million

Engineer Justin Barfield told the commission that the Farm Center renovation is approximately 85% complete and remains on schedule. He said courthouse plumbing and HVAC renovations are underway with a projected completion date in early January 2025 and that an OAC meeting at the Farm Center was scheduled for the coming Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
Barfield said landowners around three FEMA bridges and the L. Vaughn Road bridge are not willing to donate right-of-way, so the county may need to acquire property by purchase or eminent domain. ALDOT approved the asphalt plant for the Rebuild project and resurfacing was expected at the end of October or early November. Barfield reported that Wiregrass Construction was the low bidder on the Highway 52 roundabout at $2,985,676.20, that the county must submit a concurrence letter though it is not the lead, and he presented an ADEM scrap-tire agreement authorizing reimbursement for tires removed from roadways; the commission approved the ADEM scrap-tire agreement.
