Engineer outlines road resurfacing schedule, grant award and storm preparations

County Engineer Justin Barfield updated the commission on several infrastructure items: personnel changes, specific roadwork preparation, grant awards and storm readiness. He said patches were prepared on County Roads 16, 19 and 83 in advance of resurfacing expected at the end of October or the first week of November and that five driveway pipes have been installed since the prior meeting.
Barfield said the department received a $5,000 award from an RC&D grant to purchase aggregate material for County Road 69. He also reported completed plans for the L. Vaughn Road bridge with a right-of-way letter sent to an adjacent property owner and noted an ALDOT meeting about the MPO project on County Road 68 with an anticipated LET in late March or early April 2025. Barfield said brush cutting and right-of-way mowing are nearly complete, herbicide spraying was scheduled pending weather, and the department is stocked and preparing for the approaching hurricane.
