Probate Judge authorized to retain $3,500 buffer for bad-check fees

Chairman Toby Seay reported that a recent audit of the Probate Office identified no formal provision for handling bad-check fees. Because the office historically had sufficient excess funds to cover such fees, the auditor recommended a buffer be maintained going forward.
Seay requested authority for the Probate Office to retain $3,500 in its account to cover occurrences of bad-check fees until the funds can be recouped. Commissioner Todd Brannon moved to allow the Probate Office to retain the $3,500 balance; Commissioner Bart Wilks seconded and the motion passed 4-0. The minutes state that excess funds beyond the buffer are to be paid to the County General Fund.
