County Engineer Justin Barfield told the commission he will advertise five positions (three EOII, a West crew foreman and a parts runner) to fill staffing gaps in the road department. He reported cross drains were completed on Rebuild roads County Roads 16, 19S and 83, several driveway pipes were queued for installation, and herbicide spraying was about 80% complete.
Barfield said the Rebuild paving project was being advertised and at least three contractors had pulled bid packets; bids would be opened next week while many commissioners attend a conference and awards are expected to be considered at the Aug. 26 meeting. He asked Commissioners Spivey and Wilks to finalize next year's paving list but cautioned that large bridge costs could affect paving priorities.
