Potter County enacts 90-day burn ban amid dry, windy conditions

The Potter County Commissioners Court approved a 90-day countywide burn ban beginning Jan. 12, 2026, and running through Apr. 12, 2026, citing unusually dry conditions, high winds and an uptick in roadside fire starts.
County fire staff described the seasonal risk and urged the court to implement the temporary restriction to reduce the likelihood of larger fires as fuel loads remain high. A fire official told the court the restriction would provide time to get through typically windier winter days and reassess in April when conditions may improve.
The motion to implement the burn ban passed by voice vote with all members in favor. County staff said the ban will be reevaluated as weather and fuel conditions change.
