Court approves applications for state-funded dam upgrades and repairs

The county's Soil and Water Conservation District representative asked the court to approve six grant applications to the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board for repairs and upgrades to local flood-control dams (Cedar Creek 1A, 1B, 9, Upper East Fork Lateral 6A, Lateral 4 and Lateral 4B). The representative said the applications are 100% state-funded when awarded, but that the district and county would have to administer contracts and supply contracting officers if projects are selected.
Commissioners discussed the application deadline (Aug. 30), likely timelines (selection and funding decisions may not be available until Sep. 1, 2025) and the need for title opinions and engineering to be ready; staff warned that engineering is not typically done until funds are committed, which can create delays. The court approved submitting the applications and pledged to consider letters and outreach to state legislators in support of the requests.
