Residents and steering‑committee members urge commissioners to adopt Strategic Plan goals

Dozens of residents and steering‑committee members used the public‑forum portion of the Aug. 27 meeting to urge commissioners to approve the values, vision, mission and strategic goals developed as part of Rockwall County’s Strategic Plan 2050.
Heather Bugler, who has participated in the county’s strategic‑plan sessions, told the court the process "has been an amazing experience" and asked commissioners to approve the values and vision before the afternoon workshop. Cindy Taymour, a utility industry professional serving on the steering committee, said Rockwall County faces rapid growth and stressed the importance of planning for environmental factors and sustainability in the next 25 years. "With the tremendous growth that we have seen ... it is imperative that we plan for our future," she said.
School and nonprofit leaders highlighted places where the plan can help meet long‑term needs. Kim Krimrein, executive director of the Royce City ISD Education Foundation, described the foundation’s classroom grants and told the court, "Since we were founded in 2009, we have given back more than $1,500,000 to the school district." Lauren Lichty of the Rockwall County Open Space Alliance urged the court to include specific goals and objectives to preserve open spaces in the final plan. The court did not adopt the statements in the morning session; commissioners pointed to the 1:30 p.m. workshop for the formal presentation and potential action.
