Rockwall County Commissioners Court set a 1:30 p.m. workshop to consider approving the core statements of the countywide Strategic Plan 2050, the court announced Aug. 27.
Commissioner Makalick told the court the four statements before the panel — vision, mission, values and strategic goals — reflect a consensus from the Community Steering Committee and a large body of public input. "Today will ... represent a body of work that's based on hundreds of individuals across our county," he said, and invited the public to return for the 1:30 presentation where "the rubber meets the road." The court will use the workshop to review the plan's recommended goals and to decide whether to adopt them as guiding statements for county policy and implementation.
The plan brings recurring themes that emerged from public forums and CSC meetings into the discussion: managing rapid population growth, protecting open spaces and improving infrastructure and water resources. Speakers during the public forum stressed those same priorities — residents urged the court to approve the plan's values and vision so county departments can begin the implementation work. The court did not take final action at the morning session; commissioners said the more detailed presentation and any proposed language changes will be considered at the 1:30 workshop.
