Sheriff's office to switch internet provider; commissioners approve GigTel and Metronet contracts

The Putnam County Board of Commissioners approved two contract actions for the Sheriff's Department on Nov. 18: acceptance of a GigTel contract and authorization to move internet service to Metronet at $251.25 per month.
DJ Hendrich and Tresha Clearwaters presented the item. Clearwaters said the new bills will be about $250 less per month and that the money is already included in the department's budget. Hendrich said the Metronet service would provide more speed and better service and that it is the same system the courthouse uses.
Commissioner David Berry moved to approve the GigTel contract and Commissioner Rick Woodall seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Woodall then moved to approve switching internet to Metronet at $251.25 per month and Berry seconded; that motion also passed unanimously. The meeting record does not include contract start dates or the length of the agreements.
