Board endorses county letter of commitment for Age-Friendly designation

Houston County public-health staff asked the board to endorse a letter of commitment as part of the county’s effort to pursue an Age-Friendly designation that would coordinate services and programs for older adults across cities and townships.
Jordan told commissioners the county has convened partners since spring and proposed a hub model where public health would coordinate countywide efforts while each city leads local initiatives. "So this is part of the process for age friendly designation," Jordan said, adding the work is being funded through the SHIP grant and, as presented, ‘‘should not get to the point where it costs anything outside of that." Commissioners asked whether endorsement requires a monetary commitment; staff reiterated no new county funds are anticipated and that grant funding would be pursued for any projects that need additional support.
A motion to approve the letter of commitment was made, seconded and adopted by voice vote. Staff will proceed with the designation process and continue coordinating with municipal partners.
