Commission authorizes preparatory work to pursue SEED grant for industrial park expansion

Chairman Toby Seay briefed the Commission about a possible opportunity to expand the county Industrial Park using a SEED grant program offering $30,000,000 in funding. Based on population, the county could qualify for a 67/33 grant match that would cover 67% of project costs with the county funding the remaining 33%. Seay said the county would not have to expend purchase funds upfront but would need preliminary work such as site survey, topo, borings and a flood map and might need an option to purchase property of at least 75 acres to meet grant requirements.
Commissioner Todd Brannon moved to authorize the necessary preliminary work for the grant application and to allow Chairman Seay to sign option-to-purchase and professional service agreements; Commissioner Wade Fulford seconded the motion and it passed 4-0. Chairman Seay said funds in the Economic Development Fund can cover the upfront costs. The action authorizes staff to begin preparatory steps for applying to the SEED grant program.
