The Coosa County Commission voted Jan. 13 to move the Mt. Olive precinct polling place to Station 3 of the Goodwater Fire Department at 31 Coosa County Road 123, beginning with the May 19, 2026 election.
Commissioner Bertha K. McElrath moved to adopt the resolution and the accompanying lease; the motion was seconded by Commissioner John Forbus and approved unanimously. The adopted resolution directs the county administrator to file the change with the probate judge and the board of registrars and to post the updated list of voting places at the courthouse.
The 10-year lease between Coosa County and Goodwater Fire Department, Inc. sets rent at “One Hundred and NO/100 Dollars ($100.00) for each election,” requires the lessor to maintain the premises and utilities, and allows either party to cancel the lease with at least six months' written notice prior to an election. The resolution specifies the new voting place will begin with the May 19, 2026 election.
County Administrator Amy Gilliland is named in the resolution as the official charged with filing the documents required by state law. The commission-recorded action was procedural and unanimous; no public objections or alternate sites were recorded in the minutes.
The move will change the physical voting site for precinct 0420 (Mt. Olive). Voters in that precinct should look for official notices and the posted list of voting places at the Coosa County Courthouse for confirmation prior to the May election.
