Geneva County approves ARPA spending for fuel pumps, Poole Road bridge repairs and Farm Center bleachers

The Geneva County Commission on Oct. 28 approved several allocations from its remaining ARPA balance, including a new fuel pump system for Road & Bridge, up to $100,000 to repair the Poole Road bridge and up to $11,000 to purchase bleachers for the Farm Center.
Chairman Toby Seay, summarizing the staff recommendation, said the county has “enough funds remaining to purchase a set of bleachers for the Farm Center.” Commissioner Wade Fulford moved to approve the fuel pump purchase; the motion passed 4-0. Engineer Justin L. Barfield explained the Poole Road bridge requires repair or will be closed by the State, and Commissioners voted 4-0 to expend up to $100,000 of ARPA funds for the work. Commissioner Weston Spivey moved and the Commission approved up to $11,000 for bleachers, also by a 4-0 vote.
County Administrator Cindy Williams presented an ARPA expenditures spreadsheet and noted that if ARPA funds do not fully cover a purchase a county fund balance could be used to make up any shortfall. The Commission did not specify procurement timelines; staff were directed to proceed with purchasing consistent with county procurement rules and existing purchase-order requirements.
