VISD attendance edges up to 93.7%, administration says 1% equals about $1.1 million

Victoria ISD officials on Wednesday credited coordinated campus efforts for improved attendance and told the board that the district’s overall attendance rate rose to 93.7% for the 2025–26 year.
Administration said the increase reverses a prior downtrend and benefits district funding: "a 1% increase in attendance in VISD is equivalent to about 1,100,000 in revenue," the presenter said, noting the figure as a planning estimate. Officials also reported subgroup gains: attendance for economically disadvantaged students and students experiencing homelessness each increased by about 0.7 percentage points.
District staff listed campuses that met the board’s 94% attendance goal — 54% of campuses — and called the improvement a product of incentives and campus-level attendance committees. Presenters cautioned the reported figures are part of routine reporting and that a pending TEA waiver could marginally change the final numbers.
Board members praised campus staff and central office teams for the gains and said improved seat time was critical for students’ learning outcomes. The board will continue to monitor attendance as staff finalize year-end reporting.
