Council approves four‑year MediAccount EMS billing agreement with nominal fee change

The Garden City City Council on July 27 approved a four‑year renewal of the city’s EMS billing contract with MediAccount, continuing a vendor relationship that began in 2017.
Fire Chief Keane told the council MediAccount provides EMS billing, training and keeps the department current on Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements. ‘‘What you have before you tonight is a 4‑year renewal with a nominal increase,’’ Keane said, adding the increase equated to ‘‘approximately less than $900 a year.’’ Council discussion included a clarification that the increase is 0.1%, not 10% as one speaker misstated during the motion language. The council approved the contract unanimously (7–0).
The agreement also covers the city’s EMS documentation program as part of the vendor’s services. Council members raised no further questions and the mayor thanked the fire chief after the vote.
