County IT director invites National Guard cyber team for voluntary cybersecurity assessment

Nichols said the county’s networking capacity has improved over the past decade and that 2026 priorities include work on artificial intelligence risk and cybersecurity. The National Guard representative told the court they will "perform a cybersecurity assessment over networks that fall under the fiscal court," identifying vulnerabilities and providing a detailed remediation list. The presenters said they will also conduct brief leadership interviews to align policies with the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) framework.
County officials asked clarifying questions about whether the review is mandatory; presenters repeatedly said the assessment is advisory and voluntary. "We're not here to audit anything... this is like, basically a free resource for the county," one presenter said. The court thanked the team and expressed interest in receiving the assessment results and checklist.
