A festival organizer identified as Reyes described the Viva Aslan festival as a long-running folklorico and mariachi competition that draws groups from Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. "We have about 800 participants so far, registered," Reyes said, and noted the event includes workshops and competitions and will feature a big concert and family activities.
Judge Parrish moved to approve $2,500 from unclaimed funds for the 2026 Viva Aslan festival; Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion and the court approved the sponsorship unanimously. The court encouraged the public to attend and wished the organizers well.
