Commission President David Berry told the board on Oct. 21 that the county will replace separate vacation, sick and personal leave categories with a consolidated "earned time off" system. Commissioners said the substance of the policy is unchanged from earlier approvals except for the name; they previously approved a cap on accrual.
Resident Teresa Parrish asked whether the county had held a second meeting with officeholders and said she did not believe she could use all of her sick time in a year. Ensley said special circumstances arising from handbook changes will be addressed case‑by‑case and the commissioners advised Parrish to speak with HR Deputy Tera Stephenson.
Tom Helmer moved to approve the change; Rick Woodall seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes do not include the full handbook language; HR will handle individual exceptions and implementation details.
