Commissioner Rick Woodall reported that the parcel directly behind the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department on Keightly Road is for sale and told the board the department would rent the building for storage until a sale closed. Deputy Tom Sutherlin indicated the sheriff’s office would use the space for storage in the interim.
Woodall said he did not know where acquisition funds would come from and hoped County Council might provide assistance; the sheriff also had a local realtor prepare an estimate of the property's value. Commissioner Berry moved to proceed with the next steps; Helmer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The minutes do not specify a purchase price, timeline or funding source; the county’s next steps will include discussions with County Council and further review of the realtor’s estimate.
