Committee recommends $264,958 in opioid-settlement grants for local programs

The Putnam County JRAC (Joint Regional Abatement Committee) recommended distributing $264,958 from the county’s opioid settlement grant pool after reviewing 13 applications, Jamie France told the commissioners on Oct. 7.
"We received 13 applications. $560,000 was requested and we are recommending $264,958 to distribute this cycle," France said, and added the committee held a grant-writing workshop to help applicants. France said recipients will be required to submit reports to demonstrate funds are used as intended.
Commissioner Tom Helmer moved to approve the committee’s recommendations, and President David Berry seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The board did not specify which applicants would receive partial awards or the schedule for future disbursements during the public discussion.
The committee’s move creates two annual grant cycles for opioid-settlement funds; the board’s approval allows staff to proceed with contracting and monitoring according to the JRAC recommendation.
