On June 3 the Board of Business Neighborhood Services voted to authorize the director to place liens on properties listed in the trash-lien certification for unpaid trash, junk and debris abatement costs. Staff said the action is taken under the department's enforcement authority in the revised code.
"This trash lien certification represents 167 trash cases with a total amount owed of $91,655.57," Carly said during the presentation. Board members clarified that property owners may appeal a lien: Carly said members of the public "can contact the nuisance abatement department and ask for a hearing with the administrative law judge to try to get those reduced or waived." The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote. The action places financial encumbrances on the identified parcels until the department's costs are paid or the lien is resolved through appeal.
