La Porte council adopts 71¢ tax rate for 2025–26 fiscal year

The La Porte City Council on Monday adopted an ad valorem tax rate of $0.71 per $100 of assessed valuation for the 2025–26 fiscal year after a recorded vote.
A city staff member presenting the calculations said the no-new-revenue rate was 0.72932 and the voter-approval rate 0.74714, and noted, "The proposed tax rate is 71¢. It's been 71¢ for the last 37 years." Staff also told the council the proposed budget had been built around the 71¢ rate.
Councilors voted to approve Ordinance 2025-5002 setting the tax rate. The staff presentation said the maintenance and operations portion of the rate equals 0.597 and the interest-and-sinking portion equals 0.113. City documents and staff emphasized that changing the certified values now would significantly affect projected revenue and the spending plan.
