The Cayuga County Planning Committee reported that the county has been awarded $160,000 for a Countywide Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Pre-Planning Inventory & Analysis. Planner Nathaniel Rogers told the committee the 24-month project will formally begin in April 2025 and is funded on a 90/10 basis, with the state covering 90% and the county providing the remaining match through staff time and incidental costs.
The BOA grant will fund a countywide inventory of vacant, abandoned and underutilized commercial and industrial properties outside of the City of Auburn to identify clusters for potential future BOA designation and targeted redevelopment. Rogers said the intended outcomes include mapping affected properties and recommending smaller areas for future planning and designation by the state. The county will use consultant support paid from the grant and staff time from the Planning Department to complete the analysis.
