Thomas Scott wins council presidency in 4-3 vote; Bryan Nutt named vice chair

At its Jan. 20 meeting, the Miami County Council elected Thomas Scott as president by a 4-3 show of hands and confirmed Bryan Nutt as vice chair; the council also approved committee assignments and minutes unanimously.
The Miami County Council elected Councilman Thomas Scott as council president on Jan. 20 after a show-of-hands vote that split the chamber four to three. Scott received votes from Scott, Nutt, Fruth and Wiles; Sandy Chittum received three hands (Allen, Chittum and Sailors) and then relinquished the chair. Councilman Bryan Nutt was later nominated to serve as vice chair; that nomination carried 7-0.
Council members approved committee assignments as previously circulated and accepted amended minutes from the Dec. 16, 2025 meeting without dissent. The procedural moves took place at the start of the meeting in the GAR room at the Miami County Courthouse.
