Developer pitches 2,296-acre rezoning for possible ski area; neighbors raise water and wildlife concerns

Residents raised immediate concerns. Carol Nicholson, a Pleasant Valley property owner, urged the commission to "permanently disapprove the proposed zoning" for the 2,296.22-acre parcel, saying development would "increase traffic, trash, noise, property tax, and crime" and could reduce the water table and harm wildlife habitat. Scott Wilkinson and others flagged potential conflicts with nearby amenities such as the Spring Creek rifle range and asked the county to examine access and safety issues.
County staff described the item as a preliminary hearing and recommended moving the application forward to a public hearing, with time for staff reports and technical studies to be completed. After discussion the commission voted to advance the application to a public hearing; the vote moves the issue to the next stage but is not an approval of rezoning.
