House approves measure to align state drug scheduling with FDA approvals

The House adopted a bill intended to speed access to new, FDA-approved medications by aligning state controlled-substance scheduling with federal determinations after a 30-day review, the sponsor told the chamber.
"This bill streamlines Tennessee's process for scheduling new FDA approved medications by allowing state alignment with federal scheduling following a 30 day review period," Chairman Terry said on the floor as he moved the bill. The measure had committee amendments that were considered and adopted before final passage.
Supporters said the bill removes unnecessary delays that keep patients from accessing newly approved therapies. The clerk recorded the vote in favor (Ayes 91) and the bill was passed on final consideration.
