Howard County commissioners recognize high school students for academic and athletic achievements

Howard County commissioners opened their meeting with a series of recognitions for local high school students. A presenter (S1) said one honoree “will conclude her high school career ranked 2nd in a class of 230” and noted she has already passed multiple advanced-placement exams and stands to earn additional college credits. The presenter also noted another student, Roman, was named male student of the year and had earned a track scholarship to attend college in Charlotte.
Multiple students’ academic and extracurricular achievements were read aloud and certificates were handed to families. Presentations included mentions of leadership roles, athletic honors, and planned college destinations. The commission and attendees applauded the students; the Chair (S4) and other meeting participants thanked school staff and volunteers for organizing the recognitions. The commission said it would attempt to reschedule any students who could not attend to receive certificates at a future meeting.
