The presiding judge told the court the agenda included an annual opportunity to ask the state comptroller to return proceeds from unclaimed or abandoned accounts and recommended that Howard County pursue a claim for funds set aside for the county. "I would recommend to the court that we go through this process to make a claim the money that is set aside for Howard County," the judge said.
A commissioner moved to complete the required paperwork and another commissioner seconded; the court approved the motion by voice vote. The judge stressed that returned money must be used only for items authorized by law and that the county auditor would be responsible for tracking its use.
