County accepts $75,000 donation to fund sheriff's mental-health officer program

The court accepted a $75,000 donation from the Dora Roberts Foundation to support mental-health officers and related services in the Howard County jail. The donation was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The judge said the funds will support mental-health officers and programs that help inmates access treatment and remain on medication, which he described as a recurring issue in misdemeanor court: "Mental health is an issue in Howard County, and if we can break that cycle... it will save all of us money and certainly a lot of headache along the way," he said. Officials thanked the Dora Roberts Foundation and asked staff to send a formal thank-you.
