KCAMP urges timely reporting of utility claims to avoid third‑party handlers
Summary
Representatives of KCAMP told commissioners that delay in reporting utility claims can lead to third‑party claims handling; county staff said they will report such claims to KCAMP going forward after previously notifying utility companies directly.

Representatives Lauren Lewis and Clint Prohaska of KCAMP met with the board Jan. 5 to review procedures for reporting utility claims.
They said claims should be reported promptly to KCAMP to avoid referral to a third‑party claims handler; KCAMP’s approach is to attempt mediation and only escalate to litigation or settlement after several attempts. Public Works Director Scott Kieffaber said that recent claims had been reported directly to utility companies rather than to KCAMP because he did not know KCAMP needed to be notified; he said he will contact KCAMP and report similar incidents promptly in the future.
The board took no formal action but agreed staff should follow KCAMP’s claims-reporting guidance.
