Contractor to provide estimate after inspecting courthouse basement leak

Building Maintenance Supervisor David Manzano and Juan Montoya of M&A Construction briefed the commissioners on water entering the courthouse basement and outlined a repair approach. Montoya said crews would "remove approximately four feet of concrete and soil around the north and west side of the building" to inspect the foundation and footings. Depending on what they find, Montoya said they would either apply a specialized waterproof coating to the foundation or excavate below the footings and pump concrete beneath them to reinforce the structure.
Montoya told the board he would provide a written estimate in the next few days. Commissioners did not authorize work at the Feb. 17 meeting; they recorded a request for an estimate and follow-up before any contract or expenditure is approved.
