Health Department reports grant awards, billings recovered and outreach plans

Cindy Becker, Jewell County Health Administrator, told the board the department "received the All-Hands-on-Deck grant until 2026" and a Kansas Suicide Prevention grant, and that it will begin KanBe Healthy visits. Becker said billing staff member Jenny Scarrow "was able to get money for 45 claims that were previously written off" and is still working on 23 additional claims; the department has begun mailing statements twice monthly and is updating CPT and diagnosis codes.
Becker also said the health department donated a sunscreen station to the Mankato City Pool and has held two Pawnee Mental Health telehealth sessions. The department will staff a booth at the back-to-school event on July 29. Commissioners received the informational update; there were no funding votes tied to the report during the meeting.
